School of Natural Sciences Staff Spotlight

The School of Natural Sciences Staff Spotlight page recognizes staff for their efforts and dedication to supporting our campus community and making a difference at UC Merced. The School of Natural Sciences values and recognizes the excellence of staff accomplishments through the conferring of four types of awards throughout the academic year. With these awards, we celebrate staff who have demonstrated their commitment to teaching, research and public service, which are the cornerstones of the mission statement of UC Merced. Staff members may also be awarded for following the UC Merced Principles of Community which are the shared values that each staff member adopts to increase access and inclusion for all individuals within the UC Merced community.

The School of Natural Sciences Staff On the Spot Award was created so that members of the SNS community could immediately recognize acts of outstanding support and assistance provided by a SNS staff member. Nominations can be submitted at any time and recipients are recognized during the monthly SNS staff breakfast. Access the On the Spot Award nomination form here.

The SNS Impact Award is a new STAR award that can go to an individual or a team in SNS to reward activities that have measurable, positive impacts on people and process improvements within and beyond the confines of our School. Awardees should exhibit the following:

- The awards recognize contributions that have positive School-wide or campus-wide impacts on staff, faculty or students.

- The contributions are independent of those expected from or assigned to workgroups or committees.

- The contributions represent collaborations across SNS staff units or, even better, collaborations with other campus partners.

Nominations are collected on a continual basis. Awardees will be chosen on a monthly basis and the awards will be financial as past STAR awards have been. Access the SNS IMPACT award nomination form here.

The Staff Appreciation and Recognition Plan “STAR Awards” was created to acknowledge and reward exemplary performance and contributions by staff. Nominations are solicited from the staff and faculty each Spring.
