Students

The majors offered by faculty in the School of Natural Sciences follow a “core + emphasis” model. This model provides students the time and flexibility to explore multiple options and opportunities in science and mathematics prior to making a decision about a major or a specialty emphasis. The “core” is common to several majors. The “emphases” in each major are designed to provide students the opportunity to apply their foundational knowledge to specialty areas that most interest them. In other campuses, these specialty areas might be individual majors, however we encourage students to obtain the foundational preparation before selecting the emphasis area they wish to pursue.
