Abstract:

Theoldwaysof copingwiththeCalifornia'swaterneeds - overdraft of groundwater, stream depletion, and greater  imports-willno longermeet thedemandsof the21stCentury.Thesolutionto thechallenge of urbanwater security  willcomprisea combinationof conservation,desalination,stormwatercapture,waterreuse,andwater banking. These  "taps"of newurbanwater, including potable reuse, will help dry cities in California and elsewhereachievemore  sustainableandresilient waterfutures.This presentation will highlight advances in pilot demonstrations and systems  managementthat point the way towards more resilient water supplies for drycities.
