Based on consultation with the Graduate Division, and with the support of the School Deans, VCR Wilson, and iEVC/P Zatz, we have recently implemented a new exemption category for hiring postdoctoral scholars outside of formal recruitment. Please see Category 7 under POSITIONS EXEMPT FROM SEARCHES here. Our Delegations of Authority page has also been updated to indicate that Deans have authority for Exempt Postdoc hiring (please see #8 under Exempt Hires
here).
This new exemption category is not meant to replace formal postdoc recruitments, and diversity remains a top campus priority when hiring in any academic employment category, including postdocs. As part of the initial roll-out of this new exemption category, we will be reviewing the diversity of candidates hired by exemption vs. those hired via open recruitment to ensure we are still maintaining fair hiring and continuing to support our EDI principles.
