How many years have you been with UC Merced?
I have been with UC Merced for 2 years (I began at the School of Engineering as a Receptionist in January 2015 and came to the School of Natural Sciences in April 1016)
About your work:
I organize all school-wide events such as the annual BBQ and the holiday luncheon, among many others. I also assist faculty and staff with any event coordination needs, including finding appropriate venues (on, or off-campus) for receptions and retreats, and parking and catering requests. I am on campus to assist with any events’ needs, including hosting guests when necessary. I also work with community schools and organizations to coordinate tours of our labs and similar events.
Advice for undergraduate students:
Don’t narrow your search for a career, or field of study. If there is something you are interested in - even remotely - look into it! I was an English literature major in college, and now working so closely with scientists, I wish I had known more about different fields of study as an undergraduate, and all the possibilities each major holds!
Favorite thing about the School of Natural Sciences:
I’ve found everyone here - students, faculty, and staff - all love what they do! It is exciting to be in an environment where my colleagues are all spirited and passionate about our roles, research, and students!
