Supporting the Success of Student Organization Programs

February 9, 2017

During the last academic year, American Medical Student Association (AMSA) at UC Merced was able to purchase CPR Mannequins with the financial support of the School of Natural Sciences. Vice President of Membership, Andrew Betancourt said that this investment has been beneficial for not only AMSA members, but also students campus wide and prospective pre-health high school students. These mannequins greatly aided the organization in events such as the Annual Carnival of Pink, where the mannequins were used to demonstrate self-breast examinations and at “Welcome to the ER” workshops, which involved demonstrations on emergency care. AMSA was also able to organize the Saving Lives event in collaboration with Sigma Chi Fraternity and the Red Cross Club. This on-campus event is being held again this Saturday, February 11, 2017. The event is open to all undergraduate students and students participating in the event will earn a 2-year certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
