Michael Ruvalcaba is an undergraduate transfer student at University of California, Merced graduating summer of 2020 with a Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences. His passion formedicine started when he was very young and strengthened through High School and College. Prior to University of California, Merced, Michael completed both a summer pre-medical program and an eight month long leadership program at Stanford University. He also shadowed Dr. Kevin Chao in the Kaiser Pediatric Neurosurgery Department once a week for three months,witnessing several successful neurosurgery procedures. Currently, he is part of the Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity, the Order of Omega leadership honor society, and the Leadership Student Advisory Board. After studying abroad in Spain for a summer, Michael fellin love with the culture, and became fascinated with the possibility of traveling and learning more about new cultures. After obtaining his bachelor's degree, he will be applying to medical schools around the nation to pursue his goal of becoming a neurosurgeon. Michael’s inspiration stems from his family, especially his mother, who without their support through his academic journey, these accomplishments would not be possible.
