Anthony Garcia is achemical sciencesstudent at the University of California, Merced. Anthony grewupin Desert Hot Springs, which is a small city located in the Coachella Valley in Southern California. After graduating high school,he began his college education at Crafton Hills College. Anthony was the first in his family to attend college and after a strong two years at Crafton, he was able to finish his chemistry majoras a transfer studentat UC Merced. Starting this fall, Anthonywill be starting graduate school at UC Berkeley so that he can work towards a PhD in chemistry. At UC Merced, Anthony was involved in various groupsand organizationson campus. He is a member of the Transfer, Veteran, and Returning students program and a UROC Scholar under the UC LEADs program. As a UC LEADs scholar, Anthony has won awards at two different research symposiums for the program and conducted summer research in Professor Son Nguyen’s lab at UC Merced and Professor Richard J. Saykally lab’s at UC Berkeley. Anthony also conducted research for two years at UC Merced through NASA’s MACES Fellowship program. Anthony hopes that in the future he canuse his experiences at UC Merced to help him develop as a scientist and as a teacher for undergraduate students.
