Spring 2022 Outstanding Student: Vanessa Arceo

Vanessa Arceo will be graduating as a first-generation student with a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular and cell biology. On behalf of her chemistry professor, she was nominated to become a peer tutor for the PALS program where she spent 2 years supporting fellow students. She is very grateful for that opportunity because this is where she discovered her interest in teaching and helping students in chemistry and biology courses. Vanessa is also very interested and passionate about gynecological care, reproductive rights, and advocacy in sexual education.

In the spring of 2022, she was accepted to be a participant of a cohort at UCSF where she gained perspective and reinforced her career aspirations. She hopes to become a gynecological health care provider that enables her to educate people regarding sexual and reproductive health. Vanessa plans to later become a clinical instructor to educate future health care students. She will take time off following graduation to shadow local gynecologists in preparation for the first steps of her next journey.
