Jai Jot Kaur graduated high school amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and she is graduating from UC Merced with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology in 2022. Throughout high school, she took extensive and rigorous college courses in preparation for university-level courses. During her time at UC Merced, she was involved in data science research focusing on evolutionary biology as an undergraduate student able to gain adequate knowledge regarding scientific software applications, data science, and open science principles and reproducibility. She was involved in an internship where she ran a pledge drive, promoted the campaign, recruited individuals, and raised awareness by contacting hundreds of individuals interested in making a change to increase the public's health, safety, and well-being. During an internship at Lee & Associates Eye Care, she participated in the organization of optical merchandise and lab equipment and ensured that the lenses were sufficient by checking the prescriptions for each of the patients. As vice president of the pre-optometry club on campus, she participated in coordinating and managing various events with the rest of the club committee. She managed and choreographed Bhangra, a Punjabi folk dance, for girls at her local high school, and also participated in a team at UC Merced. While taking classes, she also worked at Chen Optometry where she pre-tested patients for eye examinations while obtaining patient history records, scheduling appointments, filing insurance claims, doing contact lens trainings, and calling patients. She thanks her friends and family for their support and love, and she looks forward to starting her new journey.
