Emily Loundara is from Elk Grove, California and graduated from Laguna Creek High School. At UC Merced, Emily is a fourth-year Fiat Lux Scholar and first-generation college student graduating in Fall 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Ecology & Evolution. She is a member of the Pre-Veterinary Club at UC Merced and is working towards a career in Veterinary Medicine. Although a significant portion of her time at UC Merced was spent online, upon returning to campus in her third year, she took on the amazing opportunity of working as one of the Student Coordinators for the Fiat Lux Scholars Program. As a Student Coordinator, Emily was able to help first-generation students transition to UC Merced and learned the many skills needed to work behind the scenes in the program. She helped facilitate online faculty receptions, coordinated student staff trainings & team meetings, managed the Fiat Lux e-mail account & Catcourses page, and organized requirement data for participants in the program. Also, as a Fiat Lux Scholar, Emily was able to develop and improve as a student in order to achieve academic success. Emily plans to continue her education and develop new skills in order to find a career in Veterinary Medicine. She hopes to work with animals and have the opportunity to collaborate with others.
