Sarif Morningstar's journey is a remarkable testament to their unwavering determination and resilience in overcoming adversity. As an illiterate immigrant with a troubled childhood, Sarif faced numerous challenges and overcame adversity throughout their educational journey. Graduating from UC Merced with a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Evolution and Ecology, Sarif's research experiences span various fields, including chemistry,
microbiology, and horticulture. In addition to working tirelessly to advance their career, Sarif is dedicated to uplifting underrepresented students as their mentor did for them. Through various mentorship positions, such as being tutor and research mentor at UC Merced, they made their mark by fostering communities of learning and growth.
Having been accepted into UC Davis for graduate studies, Sarif will pursue a Ph.D. in Plant Biology and conduct research at one of the top Plant Sciences institution in the world. In recognition of their outstanding academic achievements and service to the community, Sarif has been awarded the prestigious Eugene Cota Robles Fellowship and the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. These awards will support and enable Sarif to continue their graduate studies and significantly contribute to their field.
