Madeline (Maddie) Door is graduating from UC Merced with a degree in Human Biology and a minor in Psychology. During her time here she was a three-year captain on the UC Merced Women's Soccer Team and played as an outside back. Some of Maddie's accolades include the California Pacific Conference All-Conference First Team Award, three-time Bobcat Athletic Scholarship, three-time UC Merced Athletics Director’s All-Academic Team, two time CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Team, NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete, Dr. Le Roy Walker and A.O. Duer Scholarship Nominee, California Pacific Conference All Academic Team, and the Bobcat of the Year Award.
Maddie is a member of the Medical Fraternity, Phi Delta Epsilon, and held the VP of Finance position for a term. Following her sophomore year, Maddie had the honor of working in Dr. Saha's lab of neuroepigenetics where she grew as a student and as a researcher. She participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), Academic Year Research Fellowship, and the Summer Opportunity for Advanced Research (SOAR). Maddie presented the UROC Symposium, UROC Research Week, and the UROC Research Mixer. Her favorite part about these experiences was the challenge of explaining the research in an understandable manner to a wide range of individuals with varying degrees of background knowledge. She is thankful for her PI and graduate students for their mentorship and guidance over the last couple years. Her plans for the future are to go to medical school to become a physician that specializes in sports medicine and hopes to contribute to the research of chronic pain. She plans to gain clinical experience during her gap years that involve the community/patient outreach about chronic pain.
