In a recent issue of Nature Communications [1], strong indirect coupling between mechanical resonators in a graphene-based electromechanical system has been reported, which paved the way to all-mechanical long-distance communications. This experiment is a collaboration between the group of Prof. Guo-Ping Guo at USTC and Prof. Lin Tian at UC Merced.
January 18, 2017, Merced, California - The University of California Merced chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) has won an Outstanding Chapter Award from the SPS National Office. This is the first time the chapter has been recognized for its excellence as a top-tier student-led physical sciences organization, a designation given to fewer than 10 percent of all SPS chapters at colleges and universities in the United States and internationally.
New assistant professor in physics, David Strubbe gave an interview in Spanish about the physics conference "7th Time-Dependent Density-Functional Theory: Prospects and Applications," which he attended in Benasque, Spain in September. Professor Strubbe was an instructor for the school as well as an invited speaker for a workshop. Time-dependent density-functional theory is a theoretical technique for solving the equations of quantum mechanics, typically used for studying interactions of light with materials or molecules.
