• When the top candidate has been identified, the Search Committee Chair and/or Department Chair compiles the appointment case.
• For appointments at the levels of Assistant Professor, Step IV and above (including all Associate and Full Professor levels), at least three letters from School Suggested Reviewers are preferred. Of the School suggested letters, at least one should be from a UC campus whenever possible. The Search Committee Chair and/or Department Chair will provide the names of the School Suggested Reviewers to Personnel Staff so that they can be solicited accordingly.
• In addition to the required application materials, the appointment case will include:
- A Case Analysis for presentation to faculty [A12]
- A List of Reviewers Key [A13a & A13b]
- Appointment to Assistant Step III or below: only list of candidate reviewers required
- Appointment to Assistant Step IV or above: list of candidate and school reviewers required
- Teaching Evaluations
- Teaching evaluations should be requested from the top candidate and discussed in the case analysis. Note: If teaching evaluations were requested but not available, the case analysis should state that teaching evaluations were requested but not available.
- Publications- Candidate should provide the top 5 publications that they would like to showcase in their appointment case.
• The Search Chair presents the complete appointment case to the eligible voting faculty.
• The eligible faculty vote on the appointment case as per each department’s by-laws.
• The Department Chair writes the summary of the faculty’s discussion and record of the vote (Transmittal Letter).
• For appointments at the levels of Assistant Professor, Step IV and above (including all Associate and Full Professor levels) the Dean adds their written recommendation to the appointment case via a Dean’s Recommendation Letter and Dean’s Salary Recommendation Letter.
• Personnel Staff processes the appointment case as follows:
- If the appointment case is at an Assistant Professor, Step III or below, the Dean’s office will send out the offer once the Negotiation process is complete (see below).
- If the appointment case is at an Assistant Professor, Step IV or above, the appointment case is presented to CAP for their review/recommendation. CAP’s recommendation is sent to the Provost for approval. If approved, the Provost adds appointment letter and forwards to Dean’s office who will then send out the offer once the Negotiation Process is complete (see below).
