Initiating Search Process

Selecting a Search Committe Chair and Committee

• The Dean Receives FTE approval from Provost/EVC for designated positions and informs Department Chairs.

• The Search Chair is appointed by the Department Chair in consultation with the Dean (or designee).

• The Department Chair then nominates the Search Committee members in consultation with the Search Chair.

  • Each Department should make provisions for soliciting input on the membership of the Committee from the Faculty of the Department.
  • The Dean should verify in consultation with the Faculty Equity Advisor that the composition of the Search Committee represents a diverse cross-section of the Faculty.

• After Consultation with the Department Chair, the Search Committee in consultation with the Faculty Equity Advisor:  

  • develops the search plan
  • creates advertisements
  • develops an external job advertisement list that fulfills the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion goals

• All Professor series appointments must be advertised nationally in suitable academic or professional publications and must allow at least 30 days following the appearance of the advertisement for interested applicants to apply.

• Search Chair sends the completed Faculty Search Plan to Personnel Staff. [A1]

• Personnel Staff reviews the Faculty Search Plan for completeness.

• Personnel Staff posts job on AP Recruit site and ensures the necessary approvals are obtained through AP Recruit. [A2]

• Personnel Staff provides the Department Chair with cost estimates for external ads and processes them accordingly.
